Support the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority as it advances the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

What success looks like

Effective oversight of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority and stewardship of the Canadian Lands advances the timely delivery of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Government's narrative on progress

On September 28, 2018, Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority announced the signing of a P3 contract with Bridging North America to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Gordie Howe International Bridge project. The contract is valued at $5.7 billion (nominal value), which includes the design-build (DB) phase and the 30-year operation, maintenance, rehabilitation (OMR) phase. Bridging North America has presented a 74 month construction schedule to complete the four components of the project with the bridge expected to be in service by the end of 2024. On October 5, 2018, Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority and the Government of Canada announced the full construction start of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Expected to open by the end of 2024, the Gordie Howe International Bridge will provide direct connections between Ontario's Highway 401 and Michigan's Interstate 75. Enhanced border infrastructure at the crossing will also protect the safety and security of Canadians while making it easier, safer, and faster for people to travel and goods to flow between the two countries.
