Government's narrative on progress

Announced in Budget 2018, the new pre-apprenticeship program was launched with $6 million in 2018-19 and $10 million per year thereafter. The purpose is to encourage Canadians - particularly groups facing barriers such as women, Indigenous Peoples, newcomers, youth, and persons with disabilities - to explore the trades, gain work experience, make informed career choices and develop the skills needed to find and keep good, well-paying jobs in the trades. Organizations, including colleges, Indigenous organizations, trade organizations, and industry, were asked to submit applications for the new pre-apprenticeship program and projects are starting.
