Political donations
Every audited contribution to federal political entities — candidates, parties, riding associations, leadership contestants — from 2004 onward, plus a slice of earlier records. Pulled from Elections Canada.
A note on the data you're looking at
Pre-2007: Companies, unions, and individuals could all donate. Big businesses appear here as direct donors with sometimes-large amounts.
Post-2007: The Federal Accountability Act banned donations from corporations, unions, and associations. Only individual Canadian citizens or permanent residents can donate, and the annual limit is currently around $1,750 per party. Most rows after 2007 are individuals — but watch for executives donating in their personal capacity to parties whose decisions help their employer.
